twilight…
some boys throw sticks
at the conker trees

reflected in the axe
a sky of fluffy clouds

early morning,
applying her make-up
by natural light

back from a shortened walk
our heater turned to high

on the wall
a photo of the full moon
just above Big Ben

thinking of a past lover,
flickers from the hearth

St. George’s Day,
she scatters his ashes
onto the sea

my purse bulges
with not enough

band in the park,
a small boy dances
to “Amazing Grace”

no matter how hard I blow
the fallen leaf stays put

outside the church
a bouquet of carnations
trodden underfoot

making waves, our toy boat
safely reaches shore
