Print title: "Ancient Love" - my first surimomo print.

Block: cherry plank.
Paper: Japanese paper - Shin Torinoko white - Japanese paper size "Shikishiban" - approx. 8" w X 9" h.
Ink: water-based printmaking ink and methyl cellulose as binder.
Special effects: Fine glitter suspended in the methyl cellulose hand applied on cicada's wings and special Japanese technique of blind embossing called "kimedashi", meaning to push out the paper. I used my thumb to hand embossed the sprig of hemlock and the enso line which represents (Japanese for 'circle') is a Zen symbol of the absolute, the true nature of existence and enlightenment.
Comment: "This is the first time I've misspelled a word and didn't notice it until after I carved and printed an entire edition and mailed the prints out! I was the coordinator to this Baren Exchange #21. The song of the cicada is so lovely and resonates nature's sacredness to me."
