Francis Masat
predawn light --
unable to separate
the mist
from the surface
of the bayou
willows --
old folks
bending with the wind
I listen to the sound
of Grandfather's watch
fall --
shades of red
within shades of red
the maple
throws back the sun
Francis Masat was raised in Illinois, educated in Kansas and Nebraska, and lives in tropical Key West. Professor Emeritus, Rowan University of New Jersey, 1972-1998, he began including haiku and related forms in his poetry in 1998.
