for baby in the womb

his marvellous idea
fades with the dream

sweating in the attic
their bodies slide with ease

slipping a punt
he sings loudly
of his love

Tom and Doris pick numbers
for Wednesday’s lotto draw

this is a creature
that nobody can explain
by natural selection

the delicate remains
crumble at a touch

placing a wafer
on my tongue
the priest’s shaking hand

at the edge of the lake
water turns to ice

overnight the garden
