Preface: It's quite an honor to share some of my work alongside those showcased by the phenomenal poets and artists featured in this forum. A few months ago I stumbled upon the Simply Haiku Yahoo Group (moderated by Robert Wilson) where I was introduced to the Japanese art form of haiga. The juxtaposition of haiku with visual imagery appealed to my artistic curiosity. After a few experiments, I was hooked. For inspiration, I draw upon "the moment" reflections, memories, thoughts, and reactions to my surroundings: "Weeds" was a recollection of a neighbor who was disinterested in lawn maintenance. His unattended weeds grew to impressive heights and even bloomed. "Wind chime" was inspired by my late grandmother who lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She had a sizeable wind chime collection, many of which were designed with sea-creature and butterfly themes. "The Old Barn" represents the passage of time and the transitions that come along with it.
