we watched from a hilltop
the autumn sun
reflected off the lake
in a distant valley

wet sand
drawn from beneath my feet
a wave recedes
carrying moonlight
on its rolling crest

rest home --
the closer I move
toward you
the farther you seem
to draw away

garden gnome
a little girl plants
a kiss
to say goodnight
led to staying forever

cup outstretched, a mother
fans her sleeping children
Mexican noon
two dogs splayed out flat
beneath a parked car
