image: Carole MacRury :: haiku: Roshu (1825-1899)
| Roshu died on the eighteenth day of May 1899 at the age of seventy-four. His death poem refers to “Koromogae," the change from heavy clothes to light ones, which is a seasonal reference as well. Buddhist monks generally put on a white robe just before death, and the dead were wrapped in white cloth as well. I choose this photo for the transience of the fallen leaf and the sunlit white frost signifying a final journey. |
